In speaking for myself. Yet, by your gracious patience,

I will a round unvarnish'd tale deliver . . ."

Mid-Life Crisis

Today is my birthday. I'm 45 years old. Maybe that's why a couple of days ago I cut myself some bangs after not wearing them for a number of years. I had bangs all through my adolescence and young adulthood and finally decided a few years ago to grow them out because I was tired of fighting the bang battle. I have naturally curly hair, so getting bangs to behave like bangs is not easy. It has been nice for a number of years now to just wash and go. With bangs, I have to blow dry to get the desired effect.

But maybe it's worth it. I think they may take off a few years. What do you think? Here are a few birthday pictures (taken by my daughter) for your consideration.

With glasses (do I look more intelligent?):

Thanks for being my official photographer, Caitlin!

I know, this post is an exercise in total vanity. But I'm entitled, right? I'm now closer to 50 than 40. The wrinkles are multiplying, the hair is graying, the eyes and mind are failing, and the body is going. Gotta take what I can get.

Happy birthday to me!

Happy birthday! I think you look great and I'm totally jealous of your hair. :) I vote for glasses, but I'm a glasses girl myself so I'm biased.

Happy birthday!

I think you have nothing to worry about. The best years of my life have been between 40, and there still going on. Your body fails a little, but I think the mind gets sharper, or maybe just clearer.

Cheryl - I've loved following your blog and even meeting you in person. You look so much younger than your actual age!

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday... hey 40's a good club, I moved to the 50 clube last year.

It's been ok....

Bangs / no bangs.... it's how you feel on the inside that matters most.

Peace..

Hey, Happy Birthday plus 1 !

I vote glasses, since I've always secretly wanted some, so as to look more intelligent myself :) And I'll trade hair anytime too.

Thank you, everyone! What lovely bloggy friends you are. Working Man, I don't know about the sharper mind . . . my personal experience so far seems to suggest otherwise . . . but maybe if I can survive the forties the fifties will be better, at least on the mental front!
