Real Life

As many of my readers well know, sometimes as a homeschooler it is hard not to compare yourself to all those photos in the curriculum catalogs of perfectly groomed parents and children sitting at organized learning centers with books and papers neatly stacked and a clean and tidy house visible in the background.

Of course, when we fall into the comparison trap we invariably come up short. Real life--especially real homeschooling life, where people are actually living and working in the home ALL DAY LONG--is just not like that. So this is for my homeschooling readers (and anyone else who wants to get a peek into our homeschooling day). Compare away! And feel good about yourselves!

(Note: I'm sure Trevor would like me to let you know that the mess is not his. Truth be told, I think it's mostly mine and the 4-year-old's!)

That table looks VERY familiar :-)

As the saying goes, if a cluttered desk/table/carpet is the sign of a cluttered mind, then what does an empty desk/table/carpet signify?

I think this would be a fun thing to do as a carnival or blog day.

Yup, my house looks like that, only worse! There's laundry stacked up on all of our sitting surfaces and toys scattered everywhere (and we just cleaned them up last night!) Our dining room table is not an eating surface or even a homework surface - it is a horizontal file cabinet! :)

Cheryl, Why didn't you say hello when you stopped by to take a picture of MY family room? Our school table looks similar, but always seems to have a dirty plate on one end from someone who took forever to finish the last meal. My goal each day is to have everything relatively picked up before my husband gets home from work. It's a good thing that he doesn't get home until 9:30 pm!

You're joking, right? My house hasn't looked that neat in years.
