Barack Obama Refers to His "Muslim Faith"

Here's the video; make of it what you will. If nothing else, I think a gaffe of this magnitude bespeaks a candidate who is at least a little rattled by the current political environment.

I don't know, considering the lead-in to this particular "gaffe", I think people are reading way too much into it. They were going back and forth on the subject for a while, I think he just got mixed up.

This is, however, just another great example of how, while being pretty good orator by the standards of the day, Obama is a miserable extemporaneous speaker. I can't wait for the debates.

I listened to half of this. Obama is extremely hard to listen to in interviews. What is clear to me is that Obama is a terrible off-script speaker. I can't speak to the gaffe since I didn't listen to the whole thing.

Bush may be stiff and awkward during speeches, but at least he can speak well off the script. I'm not sure Senator Obama would know which end of the bullhorn to speak into.

Yeah, the debates are going to be a bloodbath.

Watch 3:14-3:27. He doesn't believe what he's saying. If you watch, it looks like he's trying not to smile, and he's parsing his words. Note pause before "deeply offensive."

Your point is well taken, Evan. At the same time, as a Christian, I just have a hard time imagining the words "my Muslim faith" ever crossing my lips, no matter how confused I was. But maybe I'm kidding myself. I'm not running for president, suffering from sleep deprivation, talking to thousands of people today, and having my every word and action analyzed under a microscope. That must be hard indeed, and I certainly don't know what it's like to walk in those shoes.

I meant to say "thousands of people a day."

Backpedaling!!!!!!

I cannot wait until the debates. He's awful off the cuff.

Exactly Cheryl. I would never utter "my muslim faith," anymore than I would My Mormon Faith, My Hindu Faith -- it's just not on my lips. I'm not buying it.
