Good Riddance

This has been so long in coming. When we moved into our house over ten years go (!) the back yard was an overplanted, overgrown, overlandscaped mess. We have spent the last ten years removing superfluous fencing, hedges, and bushes and reclaiming the lawn that used to be there. The last piece of the puzzle was this concrete slab and four fence posts. I have no idea what its original purpose was. When we moved in it was enclosed with a chain link fence. We removed the fencing long ago but the slab has been an eyesore ever since.

Today we finally said goodbye to the whole ugly mess:

The plan is to expand our tiny little garden plot into this newly excavated space. I'll post pictures as the plan unfolds.
Anyone want to come to a shoveling party?

Yeah for you!

And now that I see it, I imagined right away that previous people used it for some sort of dog kennel, at least that is what it looked like to me.

Yeah, I've had that thought. But the slab was originally completely enclosed by a fence. No grass, just concrete. Would that be a dog kennel? Maybe so. I don't know. But where would the doggies "go," if you know what I mean?

We completely enclosed a concrete slab with fencing at our last house. We would take the dogs to the enclosed area. Let them take care of business, then release them to play in the yard. We had three dogs and it really kept the mess to a minimum was was super easy to clean up.

Wow, Karen--maybe that's exactly what this was for! Maybe we should have kept it! Naaah, it was such an ugly thing and the weeds were growing through the cracks . . . I'd rather be rid of it and pick up the poo from the lawn, especially since I don't pick it up but make the teenagers do it!
