Which is not to say it doesn't have its downsides--I'm so glad to have learned it in childhood rather than as a second language! Nevertheless, I can think of no other language so versatile and unpretentious.Bi-Coloured-Python-Rock-Snakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10486453438350039642noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2973269483459581996.post-63054111524582994432007-10-23T11:19:00.000-05:002007-10-23T11:19:00.000-05:00Oooooo. Bet even the concise version is a pretty good-size tome.

English is such an incredibly insane, complex language. And that is one reason I love it so very much.Elephantschildhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14610471467736150461noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2973269483459581996.post-41754712785573659842007-10-23T00:18:00.000-05:002007-10-23T00:18:00.000-05:00Cheryl, when I have whined to Pastor about the cha...Cheryl, when I have whined to Pastor about the changes in hymns from TLH to LSB, the "ruts" and "impressions" are pictures I've used repeatedly. We rehearse the liturgy and we rehearse the hymnody, and each time we sing them, the impression (or furrow or rut) is dug a little deeper. And each time we make a row in kinda-sorta the same place but not quite, the sharp outline of the furrow and the depth of the furrow are compromised.

I think "harrow" makes LOADS of sense as a foundation-word for rehearse. But then, you are a city girl, and I see more tractors, more harrows, more combines, more hayrakes, and more plows than you do. :-)Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16152213210269075304noreply@blogger.com
